Extensive renovation and refurbishment of a period country home.

Brook House was a comprehensive renovation project combining traditional craftsmanship and natural materials with the requirements of a modern family home.

The project involved extensive structural alterations and refurbishment throughout, alongside significant improvements to the building fabric. Particular care was taken to retain the character and integrity of the original property while sensitively introducing new elements and modern services.

Traditional and breathable materials played an important role throughout the works, including lime plaster and finishes, wood-fibre insulation, structural and decorative oak, natural stone flooring and traditionally detailed slate roofing.

The ground floor was reconstructed using a breathable build-up incorporating recycled foam-glass aggregate, lime screed and underfloor heating, providing a modern level of comfort while remaining sympathetic to the historic fabric of the building.

Externally, the works included extensive roof construction, oak cladding, bespoke curved verge detailing and the careful repair and improvement of original features. Internally, natural materials, traditional finishes and bespoke detailing were used throughout to create a home that feels both established and contemporary.

Brook House represents the approach at the heart of Edge Heritage: understanding how an older building was constructed, respecting the materials and craftsmanship that give it its character, and carefully adapting it for the next chapter of its life.
